Technical data

  • Series: N (black)
  • Receptor: gold-coloured, 1.01 in. (26 mm) diameter, adjustable
  • Material: steel lifter components — exercise care to minimize possible damage to the header/combine
  • QD™ Nut Assembly contents: 1 QD™ nut, 1 M10 hex head cap screw, 8 large flat washers (USS) and 4 small flat washers (SAE) for spacing; spare assembly part 32256-50
  • Optional carriage bolts only where the header requires them: 32310 (7/16 in. step bolt for MacDon headers with poly skid plate), 32312 (7/16 in. carriage bolt tapering to 10 mm, for guards bolted from underneath), 32314 (10 mm carriage bolt)
  • Rail: grey MD-2 rail for the MacDon #286315 long guard
  • Crops: pulses, cereals, rice, oilseed, forage and other specialty crops

Installation

  • Install the QD™ nut assemblies starting 6 in. (15 cm) from the right side of the header and every 12 in. (30 cm) across the header
  • Insert the supplied M10 hex head bolt from the bottom of the header, or the correct Flexxifinger® carriage bolt where the header requires one; add washers so the rail sits parallel to the guard (Case IH, MacDon and New Holland: 4–8 USS; John Deere: 1–4 USS on top of the cast knife hold-down; Schumacher guard: 4 SAE)
  • Slide the lifter snout over the guard with the rail spring side up, push the rail all the way into the rail slot on the QD™ nut, and let the spring snap down evenly into place
  • Check knife clearance (no contact when the lifter is moved fully side to side and up and down) and that the rail is parallel to the guard
  • Lifter must free-float about 1/4 in. (6 mm) to 1/2 in. (13 mm) up, down and side to side — never install a bolt or set screw in the hole at the top of the lifter rail to create a snug fit
  • Tighten all QD™ nuts to 60 ft-lb (81 Nm); QD™ nuts can remain on the header when the lifters are not in use
  • Adjust the cutting bar to negative 5 degrees
  • Install the nylon finger: rest the receptor on top of a vise jaws, slide the finger tail into the front of the receptor matching the flat sections like a key into a lock, tap firmly with a rubber mallet or hammer until fully seated, then rotate 90 degrees with pliers or a wrench to lock it
  • Set the finger angle to a maximum of 25 degrees from the ground, with the finger tip about 1/2 in. (13 mm) to 3/4 in. (19 mm) above the ground; set all lifters to the same angle so they form a straight line in rigid mode, then retighten the receptor lock nut
  • Combine 100 ft (30 m), then readjust as required; centre the header reel over the cutter bar so reel tines pick crop up from the lifters, not from the ground ahead of them

Tips & tricks

  • Measure the guard before ordering: N (black) fits guards longer than 5-3/4 in. from bolt-hole centre to tip; J (blue) fits guards shorter than 5-3/4 in.
  • General recommendation: one lifter per foot across the header for solid-seeded crops
  • Fitting chart recommends the Heavy Duty lifter on Claas Vario headers (limited header-angle adjustment) and on John Deere 925D/930D/936D draper headers
  • Finger choice by soil: 33058 all-purpose; 33058P and 33060P with touchdown pad for rocky, dry or sandy loam soil; pad fingers are not recommended for wet, heavy gumbo soil
